I had the pleasure of meeting with Violette Malan at one of her three book signings in Toronto this weekend. Here she is signing copies of her books. :)
If you haven't read Ms. Malan's work, I highly recommend both Mirror Prince (if you like urban fantasy/fairytale fiction) and Sleeping God (if you like traditional fantasy). I actually recommend everything she's written but these are the starts of her two series.
Her newest book, Shadowlands, is a sequel to her debut, Mirror Prince.

I met Violette for the first time just before her debut novel, Mirror Prince, came out. I've since read - and liked - everything she's written. Her newest book, Shadowlands, a direct sequel to Mirror Prince, is out August 7th, and she's doing several things to promote the book. First, she's hosting a series of giveaways on her website. Second, she's going to be in Toronto for some book releases. Here are all the details for those, from her website:

A Good Day for Book Signing, Usamaru Furuya at the WBB
Yesterday manga artist Usamaru Furuya stopped by for a quick signing at the WBB for his newest book, Lychee Light Club.
Indeed, yesterday was a good day for signings as David Nickle was spotted signing copies of his new release Eutopia. And two of the editors of Machine of Death, a book of stories centered around a machine that will tell you how - but not when - you will die, also came in to sign books. They're currently working on volume 2, if you've got an original story idea based on the premise, here are the submission guidelines.
I love working at a bookstore. :)

R. A. Salvatore video clips
My husband showed me how I could upload the videos faster, so here are two more clips from R. A. Salvatore's book signing at the World's Biggest Bookstore. Once again, sorry for the quality of the videos (which will probably be worse than the one I posted yesterday).
In the first video he's explaining why he started writing and why he chose to write fantasy over other genres.
In the second video he's answering the question of how he disciplines himself to write and how he handles writer's block. It's a great response. If you find yourself constantly procrastinating when it comes to your own writing, I'd highly recommend listening to his advice.

R. A. Salvatore in Toronto
Mr. Salvatore spoke of the 4 projects he's currently working on, his influences when it comes to writing and several other topics. I took these video clips with my camera so I apologize for their less than professional quality. :)
In this video Mr. Salvatore is asked why the heroes in his books are all highly moral characters and what sources he got those ideals from.
I have two more videos to post but uploading time is such that I can't add them today anymore. Look for them tomorrow.
