This will be my last SF/F Events post. I started my evens calendar with the idea that, knowing what was happening, I'd attend more events. But living outside of Toronto, I've found it's too much effort to head downtown for events, so... I'll keep up the links I used to find events, so anyone interested can do their own research. And, as always, check the websites to confirm times and locations.

He is the author of Kiss Me, a collection of short stories, as well as the five novels to date (Lost Girls, The Trade Mission, The Wildfire Season, The Killing Circle, and The Guardians). Lost Girls was an international bestseller, and is currently in development for a feature film adaptation. His new novel, The Demonologist, will be published internationally in late 2012 and early 2013. Andrew Pyper lives in Toronto.

Alyxandra Harvey lives in Ontario, Canada. She studied Creative Writing and Literature at York University and has had her poetry published in magazines like The Antigonish Review, Room of One’s Own, OnSpec and CV2. When not writing, she is a bellydancer and jewellery maker. She has published a number of vampire novels including My Love Lies Bleeding, Blood Feud, Out for Blood, and Haunting Violent. In Stolen Away, published by Bloomsbury in March 2012, Alyxandra Harvey enters the world of faery in another irresistible dark romance.
David Clink is the Board President of the Rowers Pub Reading Series. David’s poetry has appeared in The Antigonish Review, The Dalhousie Review, The Fiddlehead, Grain Magazine, The Literary Review of Canada, and in over ten anthologies. He is a member of three writing groups. He was co-publisher, along with Myna Wallin, of Believe Your Own Press, which published twenty quality chapbooks in its five year history. His poem, “Falling” was nominated for two awards: the Rhysling Award and the Aurora Award. His poem, “Copyright Notice 2525” placed second in the 2007 Asimov’s Reader’s Poll. His first book of poetry, Eating Fruit Out of Season was published by Tightrope Books in 2008. He edited the poetry anthology A Verdant Green (Battered Silicon Dispatch Box, 2010). His second book, Monster, from Tightrope Books, was released in Fall 2010. His third collection of poetry, Crouching Yak, Hidden Emu will be published this Fall from the Battered Silicon Dispatch Box.

In the days just before the school culture festival, a girls’ rock band is facing a dilemma. They planned on playing an original piece of music but…three days before the festival, the guitarist appears to have broken her finger and an argument has broken out between two members.
While the remaining three girls are pondering these problems, they hear “Linda Linda Linda” by the famous Japanese rock band Blue Hearts and decide they want to play it at the festival. Reshuffling their lineup and recruiting a Korean exchange student as their vocalist, they practice day and night to learn the song.. Despite their exhaustion, a deep friendship develops among the four girls.

The year is 1907. Shibasaki, renowned for his skills as a surveyor, is suddenly called to General Staff Headquarters, where he receives orders to conquer Mt. Tsurugidake, the last uncharted region of Japan. At the time, the survey unit attached to General Staff Headquarters was in the process of charting Japan and had already created maps after triangulation of numerous mountain peaks. Aside from mountains climbing of which was prohibited for religious reasons, the survey group has climbed almost all the mountains in the country with the exception of Tsurugidake. Moreover, shortly after its inauguration, the Japan Alpine Club was already planning the tackle Tsurugidake and the army survey unit could not be seen to lose out to a civilian organization.
After receiving his orders, Shibasaki tackled the challenge of reaching the peak of Tsurugidake together with Chojiro, a local guide of good character familiar with the Tsurugidake area. Can they achieve the daunting task of crossing the precipitous mountain range and planting the survey records?

While the remaining three girls are pondering these problems, they hear “Linda Linda Linda” by the famous Japanese rock band Blue Hearts and decide they want to play it at the festival. Reshuffling their lineup and recruiting a Korean exchange student as their vocalist, they practice day and night to learn the song.. Despite their exhaustion, a deep friendship develops among the four girls.

The year is 1907. Shibasaki, renowned for his skills as a surveyor, is suddenly called to General Staff Headquarters, where he receives orders to conquer Mt. Tsurugidake, the last uncharted region of Japan. At the time, the survey unit attached to General Staff Headquarters was in the process of charting Japan and had already created maps after triangulation of numerous mountain peaks. Aside from mountains climbing of which was prohibited for religious reasons, the survey group has climbed almost all the mountains in the country with the exception of Tsurugidake. Moreover, shortly after its inauguration, the Japan Alpine Club was already planning the tackle Tsurugidake and the army survey unit could not be seen to lose out to a civilian organization.
After receiving his orders, Shibasaki tackled the challenge of reaching the peak of Tsurugidake together with Chojiro, a local guide of good character familiar with the Tsurugidake area. Can they achieve the daunting task of crossing the precipitous mountain range and planting the survey records?

Irish author Eoin Colfer, best known for his Artemis Fowl series for young readers, discusses his much-anticipated adult crime-fiction debut Plugged.
Colfer's novels have often been compared to the works of J.K. Rowling. In 2008, he was commissioned to write the sixth instalment of the popular Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, And Another Thing. His other works include the New York Times bestseller Airman.

Richard Gavin has been lauded as a master of numinous horror fiction in the tradition of Algernon Blackwood and Arthur Machen. Ian Rogers is a writer, artist, and photographer. His short fiction has appeared in several publications, including Cemetery Dance, Supernatural Tales, and On Spec. He is the author of the Felix Renn series of supernatural-noirs ("supernoirturals"), including "Temporary Monsters" and "The Ash Angels," from Burning Effigy Press. He is also the author of the Weird Western novella, "Deadstock," from Stonebunny Press. Ian's first book, a collection of dark fiction, is forthcoming from ChiZine Publications.

Richard Gavin has been lauded as a master of numinous horror fiction in the tradition of Algernon Blackwood and Arthur Machen. He has authored three collections: Charnel Wine (Rainfall Books, 2004), Omens (Mythos Books, 2007), and The Darkly Splendid Realm (Dark Regions Press, 2009), with a new volume in preparation. Richard has also penned criticism and various essays of arcanum. He lives in Ontario with his beloved wife and their brood. Milbrodt's stories have appeared in Nimrod, North American Review, Crazyhorse, Natural Bridge, Indiana Review, The Cream City Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and New Orleans Review, among other literary journals.

I'm one of Canada's most popular science fiction and fantasy authors. I divide my time between writing fiction and analyzing, conducting workshops and speaking on the future impact of science and technology on society. As the author of nine novels I've been translated into French, German, Spanish, Russian and Japanese.

Lesley Livingston is a writer and actress living in Toronto, Canada. She is the author of Wondrous Strange, winner of the CLA Young Adult Book of the Year 2010, a White Pine Honour Book, and shortlisted for the Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Speculative Fiction. Darklight, the second book in this series was shortlisted for the Indigo Teen Read Awards. The concluding volume in the trilogy, TEMPESTUOUS, was released in January of this year. Her next project, a YA time-travel romance-adventure titled Once Every Never will hit store shelves and Starling, a new trilogy set in the same universe as Wondrous Strange is set to release in the summer of 2012.
