Video: Altered book Alchemist's Workshop

I recently started a shadow box alchemy display and in searching for images and inspiration for it stumbled across this amazing blog: Artfully Musing. Laura Carson is an amazing artist and has a number of videos explaining how to recreate her works, including this altered book alchemist's workshop (the website has a list of supplies she used, though some of the items don't seem to be stocked by the store she mentions anymore). It's cool seeing how she takes different beads and bits and pieces and turns them into amazing things.

Fantasy Artist: Brian Richardson

I was looking through 3D printer designs recently and stumbled across one of Richardson's pieces.  I immediately looked for more.  He's created skeletons for a series of mythological creatures, including a dragon, mermaid, pegasus, jackalope, and Cthulhu.

From the about page: 

Mythic Articulations was created in late 2013 with one goal in mind ― to create what nature won't. More specifically, to create the skeletons and skulls of mythical creatures and cryptids. We offer a growing variety of replica osteological specimens of animals that you just can't get anywhere else, because they don't exist (or haven't been proven to exist). Be it the elusive Bare-Fronted Hoodwink, the mighty Wolpertinger, or something else that you might have actually heard of, we'll do our best to make it real. We use state of the art 3D Printing techniques to create each replica.

Check out his website, Mythic Articulations, for his designs, which are 3D printed to order and mailed to you via Shapeways (where I found his work) or his Etsy shop.  He also does prints and some poseable skeletons.

Fantasy Artist: Diana Harlan Stein

Diana shows up at a lot of conferences.  I bought some of her 'cute' artwork as fridge magnets several years ago:

She only does fantasy art (cute, fantasy and furry).  She also does custom work.  Here are some other examples of her sketch work, from her site.

Fantasy Artist: Vitaly S. Alexius

Born in Russian and now a freelance artist/photographer in Toronto, Mr. Alexius does some amazing artwork.  He has two branches, digital art and photographic art, both with a slant towards angels and post-apocalyptic landscapes.  He calles his style of digital art, "Dreaminism", which seems highly appropriate.

Fantasy Artist: Cindy Grundsten

I found this artist via SF Signal's tidbits page, featured at Amazing Only.  She's a graphic art designer who specializes in reality and fantasy photomanipulation based in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

Fantasy Artist: Dehong He

I noticed a new PYR book with a gorgeous cover a few weeks back and had to check out the artist.  Dehong He is a Chinese illustrator who started working with comics, helped launch several MMO games and now does game and other art.  He goes by the name GBrush on deviant art.

Fantasy Artist: Moonchild-Ljilja

I was wandering around deviant art looking for nifty artwork and stumbled across Moonchild-ljilja.  Her real name is Ljilja Romanovic and she does fairy and gothic inspired digital artwork.

She also sells background art in packs (gardens, winter scenes, temples, etc.) for people wanting to do their own artwork as well as packs and images of wings, hair and other useful objects.

Takaki - Fantasy Artist

When I was in Japan I went by a Kagaya store to get some of his artwork. Unfortunately, it was an Aquarius Stage store, which only stocks gems for jewelry making. They did have postcard books of a few of his series, so I picked up his Starry Tales post card collection (which thankfully included Artemis, Pegasus and Phoenix, my 3 favourites of the collection). I also picked up another set with pictures I didn't recognize. The artwork style was the same as Kagaya's so it wasn't until I got home (I'd packed the sets away so they wouldn't get damaged) that I realized the second set way by a different artist, Takaki. She doesn't have an English website, so here's the link for her gallery so you can check out her work. She uses a lot of angels. Here's a sample:
