Video: New Spice

Electric Lit has a round up of some fantastically funny videos by librarians, including this New Spice spoof on the Old Spice ads by BYU library. The other videos are mostly music video parodies and are very well done. I recommend checking them out (especially the Uptown Funk video).

Video: Lindsey Stirling - Lost Girls

I love Lindsey Stirling's music videos and how she combines dance, violin, and storytelling.

Video: Five Nights at Freddy's Live Action Music Video

I really enjoy watching Screen Team's music video parodies.  Since all the DMCA takedowns become more common they've started doing more original music.  They've done a remarkable job with this Five Nights at Freddy's music video.  It's the right mix of creepiness.

Video: A Criminal Mind

This is a music video for a song written, composed, and performed by Lawrence Gowan for his 1982 album, Strange Animal.  Using a mixture of live action and animated scenes, it won the 1985 Juno Award for Best Video.

It's got an interesting narrative in that it deals with a man who has 'a criminal mind' and is caught trying to steal a painting.  It's uncanny how similar he looks to the modern Marvel movies' Loki. Maybe it's just the shoulder pads.

Video: Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

Michael Jackson was huge in the 80s when I was a kid, but since we didn't have cable I never saw the music videos that aired on MTV.  My husband did though, and he's recently shown me some of them.  I've seen clips of "Thriller".  Indeed, the zombie dance in the middle is so famous - and copied - that I imagine most people have at least seen a version of it.  But if you've never seen the full video, I highly recommend it.  It's basically a mini horror movie, using a lot of fantastic film techniques and make-up.  According to my husband it was the most expensive music video made up to that point (1983), and the video that convinced other pop singers to create videos for their songs too.

Music Video: Shatter Me

I'm a bit behind on watching my youtube subscriptions, so I've just come across this amazing video by Lindsey Stirling and Lzzy Hale (from Halestorm).  In addition to some great singing and violin, there's also fantasy and stempunk elements.  Check it out:

Music Video: Want You Gone

Mystery Guitar Man (aka Joe Penna) and Peter Hollens have teamed up to do two versions of Want You Gone from Portal 2.  MGM's version has more of a story, which is why I'm embedding that one here.  Peter Hollens's is A cappella and worth checking out as well.  You can find it here.

Music Video: Jon Marco's Rhianna

Saw this great music video that pays homage to the films of the 80s.  I got most of the references, though there were 2 or 3 scenes I couldn't recognize.  It's pretty fun.  Directed by Jim Meegan.

Pop-Up Book Puppetry Used in Music Video

While I'm not keen on the band's name, Sh*tdisco's music video for "OK" is pretty cool.  Here's something you can't do with an ebook.  The beat's pretty good, though the lyrics aren't the best.

Portal 2 - This Is Aperture

I'd meant to have my two posts about A Class Apart back to back, but this video is too good to not share immediately.  I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Portal 2 was a lot of fun to play (and watch my husband play - as he's much better than me and actually solved all the levels).  The video is by Harry101UK. Music Video: Bad Apple by Touhou

I love the black and white silhouettes used in this video.  The song is upbeat and catchy.  I pulled the original video from IbukiSuika1's youtube site.

You can watch the same video, with a fan version of the song in English by ValliereVee and Pat McCarthy here (for her version with a set background) or below (with the original video)(taken from megabobi1's youtube page). The singer's great though my Japanese isn't good enough for me to comment on the translation.
