Linda Poitevin Signing at the World's Biggest Bookstore

That's right, next saturday, June 23rd, Linda Poitevin, author of the urban fantasy The Grigori Legacy (Sins of the Angels, Sins of the Son) will be signing books at the World's Biggest Bookstore, starting at 1 pm.  We'd love to see you there.

I'll be posting my interview with her this coming Friday, and reminding those of you in the area to come out and support a local (Toronto) author!

If you're in the Toronto area and you like old school (ie terrifying rather than glittery) vampires, the World's Biggest Bookstore is hosting a signing this Sunday you'll be interested in:

Here's the synopsis:

The year is 1972. Widowed Christina Parr, her daughter Morgan, and her brother-in-law Jeremy have returned to the remote northern Ontario mining town of Parr's Landing, the place from which Christina fled before Morgan was born, seeking refuge. Dr. Billy Lightning has also returned in search of answers to the mystery of his father's brutal murder. All will find some part of what they seek-and more. Built on the site of a decimated 17th-century Jesuit mission to the Ojibwa, Parr's Landing is a town with secrets of its own buried in the caves around Bradley Lake. A three-hundred-year-old horror slumbers there, calling out to the insane and the murderous for centuries, begging for release-an invitation that has finally been answered. One man is following that voice, cutting a swath of violence across the country, bent on a terrible resurrection of the ancient evil, plunging the town and all its people into an endless night.

R. A. Salvatore Booksigning in Toronto

That's right, author R. A. Salvatore, of Forgotten Realms (and other) fame, will be returning to the World's Biggest Bookstore in Toronto on October 7th, 7 pm, for a booksigning to promote his new book, Gauntlgrym. If you missed him last year, he's a great public speaker so head on down to the store and show him some fan love.

Christopher Moore Signing near Toronto

That's right, Christopher Moore, author of Lamb, Island of the Sequined Love Nun, Fool, Stupidest Angel and more, will be at the Queensway Chapters (1950 Queensway, Etobicoke, (416)622-2838) Tuesday April 20th at 7 pm, signing copies of the third book in his San Francisco Vampire trilogy, Bite Me.

There will be prizes for best costume (dressed as a Moore book character), and he has a fan book you can bring notes and fan art for.

Proof of purchase required.

He'll also be doing signings in Montreal, Ottawa and Waterloo as well as several locations in the US.

Last night we had a very entertaining signing with Paranormal Romance author Sherrilyn Kenyon. Unfortunately I wasn't able to listen in to the talk, though I heard the laughter coming from the event area. A few people even came in costume. Books were signed, prizes handed out and a good time was had by all.

Heroes Volume One

Ever wondered “How Do You Stop an Exploding Man?”
I never used to. Until I started to watch Heroes.
Fortunately, I got the answer to that question when I watched the first season of the show. However, there were many other questions I had that the show never answered. Like: What were the events that led up to D.L. escaping from jail? Why were the first batch of bodies buried in the desert? How did the first generation of “heroes” meet? Luckily, the comic book takes things a step further than the show. It answers the basic questions the show does not, gives more background detail, and explores the roles of characters who didn’t get much air time, but, upon seeing them in the comic, were actually quite cool. Heroes the comic consists of great artwork and amazing storylines and is a definite must read for any Heroes fans.

The Time Machine

A frightening and fascinating look at the possible future of our society, The Time Machine is a classic to the science-fiction genre that should be read by all. Though very technical in the first three chapters, the rest of the book is so enjoyable and vivid that it feels as if you were travelling with the Time Traveller as he goes on his journey.

Writers of the Future Signing at the World's Biggest Bookstore

For those of you who would like more information about the signing next month, the event will take place on Tuesday November 6th at 6pm and feature this year's L. Ron Hubbard Writer's of the Future Contest's Grand Prize winner, Stephen Kotowych, for his short story 'Saturn in G Minor' and the 2nd Place winner, Tony Pi, for his novella 'The Stone Cipher'. Robert J. Sawyer, a judge of this year's contest and a prominent Canadian Science Fiction author will also be in attendance.
