If you want to know why I'm closed for review requests this year, here's a post I did. I'm being fairly strict about turning down review requests for 2017.
But, if you choose to query me anyway, please include at minimum:
1) plot synopsis
2) website (if you have one)
3) release date
If you're self-published, you're more likely to get a yes from me if I can read a sample to see if your writing style appeals to me. Amazon's 'first look' feature is wonderful for this, but I'll also read blog posts.
While I review all kinds of science fiction and fantasy, my preferred subgenres are:
dystopian, post-apocalyptic, high/epic fantasy, I'm slowly getting into space opera, young adult
I'm not too keen on:
urban fantasy (I find it fairly formulaic but have read a few unique ones lately, so it's hit and miss), portal fantasy (I've only read 1 or 2 that I've liked, so this is an almost certain 'no' from me)
gritty fantasy (while I've liked some of what I've read, I need my heroes to be somewhat likeable, so if your protagonist's a rapist I'm out)
If I do accept your request, positive reviews get posted to my blog, Goodreads, LibraryThing, and Amazon Canada. Negative reviews only get posted to my blog. If I don't finish, I will write back with how far I got and why I stopped writing. I don't enjoy doing that, which is another reason I'm fairly picky about what requests I accept nowadays.
